LOOKING BACK AT PRINCE PHILIP’S LIFE

He was known as ‘The Duke of Edinburgh‘ and had been by his wife’s side throughout her 69-year reign, the longest in British history, and in this time he was perceived as a tough personality with a serious attitude.

PRINCE PHILIP

Prince Philip has been one of the longest-serving consort in British history, he was born into Greek royalty in the 1920s, and served in World War II, travelled the world on royal missions for many years and served the interests of Britain’s monarchy.

His life spanned for almost a century. Prince Philip came to England after his father, Prince Andrew of Greece. His education was in the Cheam School, an institution that focuses on toughening privileged children, post that he went to Gordonstoun School in Scotland, which promoted grueling work with cold showers and hard beds to sleep on.

When did Prince Philip meet Princess Elizabeth II?

He met Princess Elizabeth II when she was 13 or 14years old. She connected to him instantly and told her father that she loved him and they got married in November 1947 at that time she was 21 and he was 26.

Philip loved his royal duties, going with the queen on her visits and also standing in for her — apparently content to play second-fiddle while enjoying the privileges of the crown, sailing yachts, playing polo and piloting planes.

However, he had a humble touch. He carried his own luggage, made breakfast while the queen brewed tea, and decided to send his children to a normal school, instead of continuing the royal tradition of homeschooling.

He was also an environmentalist, warning about greenhouse gases and spent his time to causes like protecting endangered wildlife and doing his bit for the environment.
