Clubhouse: Clubhouse launched its Android version on the Play Store on Sunday, after being exclusive to iOS for more than a year. The step would give Android users their first taste of the popular audio-based social network. The beta version is only only in the United States, but the company hopes the Android app will soon be available in other English-speaking markets, followed by the rest of the world.

The launch of Clubhouse on Android, the world’s most popular smartphone operating system, would only add to the app’s success. Earlier this year, Clubhouse started checking the Android app. Users outside of the United States will pre-register their interest in the app on the Play Store’s Clubhouse website. Users will be alerted until the software is available in their region.

“Over the next few weeks, our goal is to gather input from the group, correct any bugs we find, and focus on adding a few final features like payments and club construction before rolling it out more broadly,” the company said in a blog post.

WHAT IS CLUBHOUSE?

The invite-only app helps users to search and listen to messages between groups of people. The most popular social media app has millions of followers, including celebrity celebrities and tech titans like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg. The social audio app allows users to gather in audio chat rooms to explore a variety of subjects, such as sports, technology, inspiration, and so on.

Because of the success, there is a surge in interest in audio-based social applications. This month, Twitter increased links to Spaces. Meanwhile, Facebook is working on an audio-chat experience that could be integrated into Messenger. LinkedIn, which is owned by Microsoft, is also working on a related feature.

Clubhouse is currently valued at $4 billion. The app was launched last year by two tech veterans Paul Davison and Rohan Seth.
