Google has denied the current rumors about its upcoming Pixel 5a mobile phone being canceled. The company said that it will be launching the Pixel 5a 5G following this year. The mobile phone will be launched in the US and Japan around the same time that the Pixel 4a was launched, which should be in the month of August.
The rumor started when a YouTuber, stated that the Pixel 5a has been canceled due to microchip shortages. This was later supported by Android Central quoting two sources.
The rumor was later denied by a Google spokesperson in an interview with 9to5Google.
Pixel 5a 5G is not canceled. It will be available later this year in the US and Japan and announced in line with when last year’s a-series phone was introduced.

What’s interesting about Google’s statement?
It is the part where it mentioned only the US and Japan as the two markets for the launch. In 2020, Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G had a reasonably short list of regions where they were available, but the Pixel 5a 5G just being released in two countries does suggest some limitations that the company didn’t embellish on.
As for the Pixel 6, we haven’t heard any official statements, but it would possibly be launched around the same time as the Pixel 5a 5G.
