A full moon that appears nearest to the earth during its elliptical movement is known as a Supermoon. The moon would appear huge and bright since it is the nearest to the earth (356,907 kilometres). It’s important to note that the Super Pink Moon isn’t really pink.

- Supermoons aren’t always full moons. If the moon’s orbit is nearest to the earth, it is called a supermoon. This is referred to as the perigee.
- In 1979, the word “supermoon” was coined. A supermoon is what astronomers call a perigean full moon.

In the midst of the pandemic, the first supermoon of 2021 brought some cheer to Twitter, with people from all over the world posting photos of Monday night’s Full Moon, also known as the Super Pink Moon. This was the first of 2021’s two supermoons.
It happens when the Full Moon is at the closest point in its orbit around the Earth, according to NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration), the nodal body of the US space programme. The next one will appear on May 26, 2021, a month from now. According to the Old Farmers Almanac website, it will be a Full Flower supermoon. The names of full moons come from local traditions and legends.
