Gulmarg, Jammu & Kashmir: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 26th February 2021, inaugurated the 2nd Khelo India Winter Games in Gulmarg and said that the event is a move towards making Jammu and Kashmir a hub for winter games.
Contestants from 27 states and Union Territories are playing in the Games, which will conclude on, March 2nd, 2021.

PM Modi also said that this is a move towards making India’s appearance welcomed in the international winter games platform and also make Jammu and Kashmir a hub of wintertime sports.
These games in Gulmarg will make Jammu and Kashmir reach new heights of peace and development. These Games will encourage the resolve for ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshth Bharat‘.
PM Modi further added that the participation this year has doubled, and this represents the inclination of Indians towards winter games.
The disciplines to have played in the Games include alpine skiing, snowboarding, nordic ski, ski mountaineering, ice hockey, and ice skating, and many others.
PM while addressing 1,200 participants who converged at the picturesque in Gulmarg, said that when you show your capability in Khelo India-Winter Games, you should remember that you are not just a piece of a sport but also the brand representative of a self-reliant India. The world evaluates India through what one does on the field.
PM ended his speech by saying that the 2 Khelo India centers of excellence in Jammu and Srinagar and Khelo India centers in 20 districts all over India are great facilities for the young players which will help them live their dreams.
The Games are being coordinated by the sports ministry and the Winter Games Association of Jammu and Kashmir.
